YOU NAME IT, WE CAN FRAME IT

From a canvas purchased on an overseas trip or beloved wedding photo to a precious needlework passed down from generation to generation or a signed football jumper that is your newest pride and joy, we’re experienced and confident in handling all types of artworks.

We frame the ordinary and the extraordinary, the large and the small, and consider all artwork worthy of the same bespoke craftsmanship and attention to detail.

We know that what you don’t see is just as important as what you do see. It is not enough for your artwork to look wonderful from the outside - the hidden materials in the backing, the way the artwork is mounted or attached and how the artwork is sealed are all vital to your artwork standing the test of time and this guides every choice we make. You can be sure that we understand what is required to frame your artworks to the highest standards.

EXPERTISE

  • Whether you have purchased an artwork or are looking to preserve your own work, we will take just as much care with the process as the artist did with the original work. Understanding the nature of the artwork is critical to determine the best framing option, so we will look at if the artwork is an original or a reproduction, an open or limited edition print, what medium has been used, if fixative has been applied, etc so we can ensure we are designing a solution that maintains the integrity of the artwork.

We use only conservation-quality materials and techniques including acid-free mount boards to discourage foxing, discolouration or oxidation of papers, moisture resistant and PH neutral backing material to discourage mould growth and ultraviolet filtering glazing material to minimise the damaging effects of light. Thus, you can be assured your individual pieces will be framed to last.

  • Standards of canvas vary and some may not be suitable for stretching, so we will start by assessing the suitability of your canvas. To stretch canvas we use quality finger jointed, knot-free stretcher bars in 19mm, 30mm or 40mm heights and tightly stretch your canvas by hand to ensure it will not bow, warp or sag over time. We can stretch canvases up to 4 metres or more.

Once stretched, we can provide your canvas ready to hang or further enhance it with a ‘float’ frame. This is a clean and modern treatment and a look favoured by galleries to bring focus to the artwork without diverting attention away from it.

It is advisable to have at least 50mm of spare canvas from the edge of your painting to allow enough room for your canvas to be wrapped around the stretcher bar and stapled securely to the back.

Oil Paintings / Acrylic Paintings / Canvas Prints / Fabrics

  • Needleworks are one of our specialities. We know how much work and time goes into them so we pay the same level of attention when framing them to ensure they are preserved and presented for generations to come. The process of framing a needlework involves stretching the work over acid-free foamcore, pinning the fabric and lacing the edges by hand to tighten the fabric. This is the only approved method as stapling or gluing needleworks and tapestries can be damaging long term causing discolouration and deterioration of your precious pieces.

As per canvas stretching it is recommended to have spare fabric around the edges of your needlework to allow enough room for it to be laced.

  • There are no boundaries to what we can frame! We love a challenge and take enormous pride in our innovative solutions. Football jumpers, ballet shoes, service medals or signed cricket bats, whatever your treasured possession, we will manufacture the perfect display solution to ensure both longevity and superior presentation of your item. Most importantly we will ensure your item is retrievable from the frame undamaged and retains its value for years to come.

Clear glass is highly recommended for framing 3D objects as non-reflective glass will diffuse the appearance of 3D items. Type of glass is discussed at consultation.

Football Jumpers / Sports Memorabilia / War Medals / Ballet Shoes / Ribbons / Jigsaw Puzzles

  • An alternative to framing, block mounting is an inexpensive solution for presenting prints, photos or posters. We laminate items onto a rigid board, usually MDF, providing a modern, frameless look. We use a laminate with UV properties which protects your work from damage from pollutants and atmosphere.

We do not recommend block mounting artworks that are high-value (monetary or intrinsic value) as it is not a conservation method and will devalue your artwork.

    Posters / Graphics / Signage / Photographs / Corporate

  • The result of your achievements should be properly preserved and displayed. Using only acid-free materials that won’t discolour the parchment we mount certificates so that they are completely retrievable from the frame undamaged. We have the ability to match mat and frame colours to your university or organisation and can frame your certificate alongside your graduation photo, frame two certificates together or include other special mementos in the same frame (i.e a plaque, a medal or a ribbon).

Before bringing in your certificate for framing we recommend you make copies of your achievements for future use.
